How To Treat Your Music As A Business And Push It The Right Way For Results

To make it in the music industry you need to treat your music as a business. And to treat it as a business you need money to run it. Now it's not about how talented you are as an artist,  it's about having money to push your music. And also making money out of the music.

You have to see it as a business where you got to make profit. And in order to make profit, you must invest in it.

The fast rising artists and the like, if they tell you how much they invest in their music you will marvel.

Here are some ways to treat your music as business and push it the right way for results.

1. INVEST IN THE ART

Music is an art. You must put out the best and most creative form of the music art. Invest in the beat, invest in the cover art, invest in the music video, invest in the promo. Invest in social media photos and live videos. And every artistic side of the music. Don't put in the public domain any low quality produced music, invest in the production, the beat is very important, the mixing, arrangement and Mastering must be dope. Don't forget to also shoot high quality and dope music videos, invest in good music directors. Do high quality and stunning cover arts. Don't do any cheap stuff and expect good returns on your music.

2. INVEST IN BLOGGERS AND PLAYLIST CURATORS AND DIGITAL MUSIC PROMOTION

Bloggers and playlist curators these days have replaced DJs because now the music is more digital and it's more online driven than the turn table driven.

I will advice you invest in playlist curators than DJs because it is through the work of the playlist curators that the DJs even discover artists or new music to play on radio. Online streaming charts now determine what's played elsewhere in the real world. You should invest in digital music promotion and marketing.

2. CUSHION THE GATEKEEPERS

It's not about punch lines or dope lines and metaphors anymore. It's about cushioning the gate keepers. Punchlines and metaphors are still required but dope music without promotion is like doing business in the dark. The gatekeepers have bills to pay and what they do is their professional work. You must pay for their services. When you take this seriously you will thrive more in the music industry.

You need to cushion the pockets of the the DJs, the bloggers, the social media influencers, the playlist curators, the influencers, the beat makers etc,

3. WACK MUSIC THRIVES BECAUSE THOSE BEHIND IT UNDERSTAND THE BUSINESS SIDE OF MUSIC LIKE MARKETING AND PROMOTION SO YOU MUST ALSO UNDERSTAND MARKETING EVEN IF YOU ARE TALENTED.

Wack music is selling these days than dope music. Because those behind the wack music understand it's business side of music and they invest in it.

4. GET MORE BUSINESS MINDED, THOUGH ARTISTIC SIDE OF MUSIC IS IMPORTANT

Becoming more business minded whiles doing the music than relying on the artistic side of it is also key to success in the music industry. You can be a dope rapper, have good videos and good music, good lyrics but you need to monetize your music more. You should not be playing free shows or events. You should also take publishing and copyright stuff seriously and doing it right. You must also be smart and sign only good and lucrative deals, whether it's a record deal or brand endorsement or whatever. You should also take advantage of your music and fame and make a business out of it like starting a clothing brand or merchandise. Or using your name to set up business which will capitalize on your fame to thrive. If you are an upcoming artist you can set up a fashion boutique, a barber shop, a sports bar, a recording studio or record label whiles you are at the peak of your career and famous.

You can be skilled but you also need to look at the business side of the music. We can relate with Jay Z and Nas. Jay-Z was about the business side whiles Nas was focusing more on the artistic Side. Artistic side of music is good but ignoring the business side of it is bad. You must blend the two together to have a greater amount of success in the music industry.

5. CONSIDER YOUR MUSIC AS A JOB

Music is also a work. You need to feed from your work, and you need to make money to break bread and also maintain your life from your work. And you must see your music as a professional work, job and business.

WRAP-UP

Being talented doesn't take you far if you  don't consider your music as a business. Take it serious. Invest in it. Also when you get the fame capitalize on the fame and make money out of the fame by venturing into something that will generate more income. Be business minded. Treat your music as as a business and it will take you far in achieving financial fulfillment and success. Music is all about blowing up, it's a job and every job requires pay, so let your music pay well.

Think about it.
